HUAYU 3 Axle 45000L Insulated Bitumen Tanker Semi Trailer

The HUAYU 3 axle 45000L insulated bitumen tanker semi trailer is built to move hot liquid asphalt, bitumen, coal tar, and similar high-temperature liquids between refineries, storage terminals, asphalt plants, and paving sites. The target customer is the road construction contractor or refinery logistics fleet that needs a dependable tanker capable of keeping bitumen within its working temperature range across long delivery routes. Every unit is independently assembled at the HUAYU factory in Shandong, and the tank, chassis, and heating package are matched so the trailer performs predictably under sustained operation.

Why Insulation and Active Heating Matter for Bitumen

Bitumen is transported between 140°C and 180°C so it stays fluid enough to pump and unload. Drop below roughly 120°C and the material thickens fast. Drop below 100°C and most discharge valves will not pass it at all. A tanker that cannot hold temperature becomes an expensive problem on the job site: paving crews wait, material has to be reheated on site, or the load goes back cold.

Two pieces of hardware keep the trailer inside its working range. The rock wool insulation layer (80 to 100 mm depending on specification) reduces heat loss from the tank surface to the ambient air. Two imported Italian light oil burners mounted at the front of the tank add heat back into the load during transit or standby. Each burner is a BALTUR TBL 45 P or equivalent two-stage unit, rated between 160 and 450 kW, driving heated oil or exhaust gas through a bottom-mounted U-shaped flue pipe system. The two-stage design steps down to a lower fire rate once the tank reaches set temperature, which reduces fuel use on longer holds.

Tank Construction

The tank is an elliptical cross-section welded from Q345B high-tensile carbon steel, with thicker flanged flat heads at the front and rear. The elliptical profile lowers the center of gravity compared to a round tank of the same volume, which improves stability on rough roads and in crosswind. Internal 4 mm wash plates suppress liquid sloshing during braking and cornering, an important safety consideration when moving 45,000 L of bitumen at 170°C.

Three DN500 manhole covers on top of the tank handle loading, and they carry the breather valve, safety relief, and thermometer sensor. Every tank goes through a factory pressure test at 0.09 MPa working pressure plus a safety margin before it leaves the production line. Tanks that fail the pressure or weld test are repaired and retested. The welding target on TIG-welded seams is 99% of the international standard, matching the inspection procedures explained in our oil tank semi trailer quality inspections guide.

Discharge System: Four Ways to Unload

Four unloading methods are supported so operators can adapt to whatever equipment the job site has:

  1. Gravity self-flow through the DN150 rear flanged outlet, with the trailer tilted up to 17°
  2. Pump pressure discharge via an optional bitumen gear pump for faster unloading or when site elevation requires lift
  3. Pump suction loading from a ground tank or another tanker
  4. On-site circulation to keep bitumen moving during extended waits

The rear main outlet uses a pneumatic butterfly valve with a 14-bolt flange. Two DN50 stainless steel ball valves with cam-lock quick couplers on either side handle smaller draws and top-ups. Every valve and pipe run is jacketed so bitumen stays hot inside the discharge line, which is the most common failure mode on tankers built without heated lines.

Running Gear: Air Suspension and Named-Brand Components

This is the premium running gear package. The three axles are 13-ton FUWA units (BPW optional), each wrapped with Triangle TR668 all-steel radial tubeless tires on 22.5 × 9.00 ISO 10-335 aluminum alloy rims. FUWA is the most widely serviced axle brand across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. Triangle TR668 is the most common all-position truck tire among Chinese export trailers. Parts availability is strong in every target market.

Air suspension replaces leaf springs on this platform. The practical difference shows up in three places: the tank, insulation, and heating piping take less shock load on rough access roads; fifth-wheel coupling height stays consistent as the trailer loads and unloads; and driver fatigue drops on long hauls, which tends to show up as fewer missed delivery windows. Shock absorbers and a height-control valve are standard.

Braking is handled by a WABCO dual-line pneumatic system with ABS, spring-applied parking brakes on all axles, and a WABCO relay valve. Landing gear is JOST 28-ton two-speed manual. King pin is JOST 2.0 inch, with the 3.5 inch option available for markets that require it.

Safety and Access Package

Hot bitumen is a dangerous good in most jurisdictions once it reaches working temperature, and the trailer is specified accordingly:

  • Full-width red-and-white reflective tape around the side and rear per ECE R104
  • Rear underrun protection bar meeting UNECE R58 geometry
  • Side underrun protection along the chassis per UNECE R73
  • Two 4 kg dry-powder fire extinguishers with independent mounts
  • Dedicated bitumen spill-containment cabinet at the rear with a DN50 flooding pipe
  • Aluminum diamond-plate top catwalk with a handrail for safe access to manholes

Paint is applied after full Sa 2.5 sandblast, followed by two coats of epoxy primer and two coats of polyurethane topcoat.

Typical Applications

The 45,000 L capacity suits long-haul bitumen logistics:

  • Refinery-to-plant transfer of hot liquid bitumen
  • Hot mix delivery to highway and road construction sites
  • Airport runway paving supply
  • Coal tar and heavy oil movement for industrial coating work
  • Road maintenance and emergency repair fleet operations

A 45 m³ tank is the industry sweet spot for long-haul bitumen. It matches the intake rate of most modern asphalt plants without forcing a split delivery, and it loads out in a single run at typical refinery pump stations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the working temperature range for bitumen in this tanker? Standard transport temperature is 140-180°C, with storage and pumping minimum around 120°C. The tank, piping, and valves are rated for this range.

What are the two BALTUR burners for? Rock wool insulation slows heat loss, but it cannot add heat. The two imported Italian light oil burners inject heat into the tank via a flue-pipe loop to maintain working temperature during long trips or standby at the loading terminal. Each is a two-stage unit rated 160-450 kW, switching to low fire once the tank reaches set temperature.

Can the tank capacity be customized? Yes. The platform is built in 30,000, 35,000, 40,000, 45,000, and 50,000 liter sizes. Tank length changes, the chassis and running gear stay the same. See the 3 axle 40000L carbon steel oil tanker for a compact alternative, and the 4 axle 45000L asphalt tank variant for markets with stricter per-axle load limits.

What axle brand is recommended for my market? FUWA is standard and is the best-supported option across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. BPW is a drop-in upgrade for customers who prefer the German brand. Both work with the same air suspension and brake system.

Is the tank interior treated for corrosion from hot bitumen? Yes. The tank interior receives an anti-corrosion treatment matched to bitumen service before final assembly. Our semi trailer maintenance guide covers the inspection and cleaning schedule that keeps the treatment effective.

Do you offer spare parts after delivery? FUWA, JOST, WABCO, and BALTUR are globally supported brands with dealer networks in most HUAYU export markets. For fast-wearing items (valve seals, burner nozzles, gaskets) HUAYU ships spare kits with the trailer on request.

How is the trailer shipped? Roll-on/roll-off vessel or flat-rack container depending on destination. For container shipping, the trailer can be partially disassembled to fit a 40 HQ. HUAYU handles customs documentation for all target export markets.

Good asphalt tanker overall. The side DN50 ball valves with cam-lock fittings make unloading at construction sites much faster than bolt-flange only setups. Air suspension rides well on our federal highways. One point worth mentioning, the burners need a cleaning routine to stay dependable, but that is normal for any hot asphalt tanker.
